PTA Mobile Tax Calculator

Phone registration tax: traveler vs non-traveler.

✓ Rates verified: October 2026

About this calculator

Every phone imported into Pakistan must be registered with PTA through DIRBS, or it gets blocked from local SIMs after the grace period. This calculator estimates the total registration tax — customs duty, sales tax and withholding tax combined — based on your phone's declared value in USD, for both traveller (passport) and non-traveller (CNIC) registrations.

The two routes cost very different amounts: travellers registering a phone brought in personally within 60 days pay lower rates than someone registering on CNIC alone. Because PTA's tax tables change with the budget, the tool uses editable rate inputs so the estimate reflects the latest DIRBS tax structure before you pay.

How to use

  1. Enter your phone's value in USD (the declared import value).
  2. Choose traveller (passport, within 60 days) or non-traveller (CNIC).
  3. See the estimated duty, sales tax and withholding tax breakdown.
  4. Pay through the PTA DIRBS portal or a bank within the deadline.

Frequently asked questions

How long do I have to register as a traveller?

Travellers must register within 60 days of arrival in Pakistan to get the lower passport-based rates. After that window, the higher non-traveller rates apply.

What happens if I don't register my phone?

Unregistered phones are blocked from Pakistani SIM networks after the compliance period — only Wi-Fi works. Registration through DIRBS permanently whitelists the IMEI.

How many phones can a traveller register?

PTA allows one phone per passport per year under the traveller concession; additional phones fall under standard duty. Check the current DIRBS rules before travelling with multiple devices.
