Compound Interest Calculator

Future value with year-by-year growth table.

About this calculator

Compound interest is interest earning interest: every period’s earnings are added back to the balance, so growth speeds up over time. This calculator shows the future value of a deposit at any rate and compounding frequency.

The year-by-year table makes the snowball visible — the first years grow slowly, but later years add far more. It is the clearest argument for starting to save early, even with small amounts.

How to use

  1. Enter the principal amount you are starting with.
  2. Type the annual interest rate in percent.
  3. Pick the compounding frequency: yearly, half-yearly, quarterly or monthly.
  4. Set the number of years and read the future value plus the full growth table.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between compounding frequencies?

More frequent compounding adds interest to the balance sooner, so each later period earns slightly more. Monthly beats yearly at the same nominal rate.

What is the effective annual rate?

The true yearly growth after compounding is included. A 10% rate compounded monthly works out to about 10.47% effective.

Is this simple or compound interest?

Compound — every period’s interest joins the balance and earns interest itself in later periods.
