Solar System Size Calculator

How many kW? Panels, cost & savings estimate.

About this calculator

With electricity tariffs climbing, a home solar system is one of the fastest ways for a Pakistani household to cut its bill. This calculator works backwards from your monthly units — or from the appliances you run — to suggest the system size in kilowatts that covers your consumption, along with the number of panels, approximate installation cost and expected monthly savings.

It accounts for real-world Pakistan conditions: strong sunshine in most of the country, space on typical rooftops, and net metering, which lets you sell extra units back to the grid through your DISCO. The result is a practical starting point for quotes — so when an installer suggests 10 kW for a 5-marla house, you will know whether that is sensible or oversold.

How to use

  1. Enter your average monthly electricity units from recent bills.
  2. Or list the appliances you want solar to power.
  3. See the recommended kW size, panel count and rough cost.
  4. Compare the monthly savings with the cost to judge payback time.

Frequently asked questions

How many kW does a 5-marla house need?

A typical 5-marla home using 300–500 units a month needs roughly 3–5 kW. With net metering, sizing to your average bill usually gives the fastest payback.

What does solar cost per kW in Pakistan?

Installed on-grid systems generally run around Rs 120,000–150,000 per kW depending on panel brand, inverter and structure quality. Get multiple quotes — prices vary widely between installers.

What is net metering?

Net metering is a two-way meter arrangement with your DISCO (LESCO, IESCO, KE etc.) that credits you for surplus solar units exported to the grid, offsetting the units you import at night.
