Percentage Calculator
X% of Y, what-percent, increase & decrease.
About this calculator
Percentages show up everywhere — shop discounts, exam results, salary raises, GST on bills and profit margins. This calculator handles the three everyday percentage questions in one place: what is X percent of a number, what percentage one number is of another, and how much a value changed in percentage terms.
It also covers percentage increase and decrease, which is where most mistakes happen, like working out a new salary after a 10% raise or the final price after a 25% discount. Each answer comes with the calculation steps, so you can learn the method as well as get the result.
How to use
- Choose the calculation type: X% of Y, what percent, or change.
- Enter the two numbers the question asks for.
- Get the answer instantly with the full working shown.

Frequently asked questions
How do I find X% of a number?
Divide the percentage by 100 and multiply by the number — for example, 15% of 2,000 is 0.15 × 2,000 = 300. The calculator does this instantly and shows the working.
What is the difference between margin and markup?
Both use percentages on profit, but margin divides by the selling price while markup divides by the cost. This calculator's 'what percent' mode handles margin; the Profit Margin tool covers both.
How do I calculate percentage increase?
Subtract the old value from the new one, divide by the old value and multiply by 100. A salary going from Rs 50,000 to Rs 55,000 is a 10% increase.
